The Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities extends its best wishes to all Muslims in South Africa and around the world. May they be uplifted and spiritually fulfilled as they observe the holy Ramadan, a time dedicated to reflection, fasting, prayer, devotion, and community service to help those in need. The celebration will conclude on 19 March, paving the way for the celebration of Eid when the moon is sighted.
Significantly, Ramadan is a time when values such as discipline, humility, generosity, and social responsibility are renewed and strengthened; principles that resonate strongly with the constitutional vision of dignity, equality, and freedom for all people in our diverse nation.
In keeping with its constitutional mandate to promote and protect the cultural, religious, and linguistic rights of all communities, the CRL Rights Commission acknowledges the important role that the Muslim community continues to play in fostering social cohesion, humanitarian outreach, and moral leadership within South Africa. The acts of charity, community feeding initiatives, interfaith solidarity, and support for vulnerable communities that characterize Ramadan reflect the very essence of ubuntu and collective nation-building.
The Commission encourages all sectors of society to respect and support the religious observances associated with Ramadan, including prayer gatherings, fasting practices, and community programmes, thereby strengthening mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence among South Africa’s diverse communities.
May this holy celebration bring renewed hope, unity, compassion, and peace to our nation and the world.
