The Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities extends warm wishes to the Muslim community as they celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.
In South Africa, the observation of Eid-ul-Fitr coincides with the Human Rights month which is a focal point to reconfirm our nation’s commitment to all the rights which are enshrined in the constitution, inclusive of the cultural, religious, and linguistic rights. More significantly, the constitution affirms and guarantees these rights and implores all of us to ensure that they are duly promoted and protected as they provide an environment for all individuals or communities to enjoy their freedom to choose, practice, and manifest their religious beliefs without discrimination or coercion.
This sacred celebration of reflection, prayer, performance of charitable acts and the advancement of values that not only unite us but provide guidance in how we are to embrace our unique diversity.
