The Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of the Cultural, Religious and Linguistic
Communities (CRL Rights Commission) has learnt with a sense of profound loss and deep sadness about the
passing away of His Majesty King Makhosonke II, Enock Makhosonke Mabhena, the reigning King of the
amaNdebele Nation.

His Majesty’s passing marks a profound loss to the cultural and traditional leadership landscape of South Africa.
King Makhosonke II was a custodian of heritage, unity, and dignity, whose leadership embodied wisdom,
compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the preservation of the amaNdebele identity and traditions.
Throughout his reign, His Majesty championed the values of peace, respect, and cultural pride, inspiring
generations to uphold their heritage while embracing progress and inclusivity. His legacy will continue to guide the
amaNdebele Nation and the broader South African community in the pursuit of unity, cultural harmony, and social
cohesion.

In October 2024, His Majesty was elected as the chairperson of the Forum of South African Majesties (SA King’s
forum), a national committee by the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA).

As a nation, we mourn the departure of a king who was passionate about education and language and who led
with humility and a deep sense of duty. His contribution to the stability and cultural enrichment of the Mpumalanga
Province and the country at large will be remembered for generations to come.

The Commission extends its heartfelt condolences to the amaNdebele Royal Household and the entire
amaNdebele Nation. We join the country in mourning a great leader whose legacy of cultural pride and leadership
will continue to guide us.

MAY HIS ROYAL MAJESTY REST IN ETERNAL PEACE.
